Dedicated to our courageous Iranian brothers and sisters who, for security reasons, cannot be named
I have been given the opportunity to review the new book, Iran Desparate for God: An oppressive Islamic state drives its people into the arms of Christ. I was excited to get my hands on it and to see what God is doing in the country of Iran. I read things such as, "Understandably, many desparatge Iranians find comfort in the huge amounts of heroin that cross their borders. In January 2006, news agencies began reporting that Iran has the highest percentage of drug addiction in the world, a sign of the hopelessness of the people. .. Yet in the midst of this darkness, small sparks of hope are growing into flames as Iranians encounter the love of God."
There were many heart-wrenching descriptions of what these different individuals went through for the sake of Christ and His Gospel. And although there were many more things I could cite, I had to limit myself. So I am only citing from the first couple chapters. But all the chapters in this book "are a small collection of testimonies representing the largest and fastest growing Muslim movement in the world: Muslims in Iran who are converting to Christianity. Many of these Muslim-Background Believers (MBBs) risk everything to come to Christ. No matter what their status, the Islamic state opposes them."
Islam has created an oppressive hold upon its people, and it has produced a confusing and mixed up message. "When you look at the Koran's chapters, many are named after the animals, insects, sun, starts, or the moon, because they are copied from idol worship. But there are places in the Koran that talk bout the power of God and salvation, where Satan is not able to say anything against God's work. It seems mixed up. But in the Bible, I read, 'Whoever delivers Jesus Christ to the nations, I will give them the kingdom, not in this life but the next life. And I give them all the keys of the kingdom, and I'll make their life blessed."

Iran Desparate for God
Many of these Iranian Christian can say with this individual, "We have been Christians for four years now. Our town is so fanatical we can only worship as a family in our apartment right now. ... ur family is faithful. God will carry us through." But the struggles these Christians go through are common struggles."I (Padina) stared at the cluster of sleeping pills in my hand. What else could I do? A failed marriage, rejected by our closed society after my divorce, the terrible shame I'd brought on my family, my mother dying of multiple sclerosis. I couldn't go on any longer. Killing myself seemed like the only escape from my pain. I tossed the pills into my mouth, washed them down with a glass of water, and waited for the peace I so desparetely craved. At an early age, I'd committed myself to the only god I knew - Allah. If I could do all the things he demanded, he would answer my prayers, give me peace, and someday allow me to enter his paradise. When I turned fourteen, joined a Zeinabiyeh (the House of Zeinab), where women can study the Koran and learn how to better please Allah. While this House was dedicated to Imam Hazrat Zeinab, we prayed to many imams."
Padina then describes the extent to which her dedication reached. Waking during the night at 1:00 a.m. and praying until 5:00 a.m., going to school, then to the House, and starting the same ritual the next night at 1:00 a.m. I had nightmares about dying. I'd been taught that when a dead person went underground all the dead spirits attacked him if he didn't believe in the twelve imams and pray to them, or if he wasn't good enough. So, every day when I'd worship and cry, I'd bring a handkerchief to collect my tears. When Imam Zaman returned, I would be able to show him, 'Look, I shed all these tears for you.' For seven years the Zeinabiyeh dominated my life. Yet nothing changed. I tried so hard. I searched for peace within my religion but found none. Instead everything worsened, including my depression. I feared that if any of my heair stuck out of my scarf, Allah would hang me from my hair in heaven forever." "Islam is a religion of depression and pills. It turns people into walking zombies. I would so love to speak to the girls attending the higher levels of the Islamic schools. ... I would tell them to test Jesus, to see what He will do in their lives. I would love to tell all the people of Iran about the beautiful Jesus I have seen." This books is not necessarily about martyrs, but people who would become martyrs if the situation called for it. It has been a vivid reminder to me, an American, who enjoys religious freedom and has no real clue about the hardships the Iranian Christians endure. I recommend this book to gain a more accurate understanding of what the people of Iran go through - especially as Christians. What is seen on the news isn't always as true as the media would have us believe. Get Iran: Desperate for God -
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written,
"For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered."
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:35-39) (ASSIST News Service and VOM sources - AFGHANISTAN)Abdul Rahman, who converted from Islam to Christianity and was prosecuted in a Kabul court, has been released. He could have been sentenced to death. Rahman was arrested last month after his family went to the police and accused him of becoming a Christian. Such a conversion violates the country's Islamic laws. During the hearing, the defendant allegedly confessed he converted from Islam to Christianity 16 years ago when he was 25 and working as a medical aid worker for Afghan refugees in neighboring Pakistan. Afghanistan's constitution is based on Shariah law, which states any Muslim who rejects their religion should be sentenced to death. The prosecutor, Abdul Wasi, said he had offered to drop the charges if Rahman changed his religion back to Islam, but the defendant refused. International publicity put pressure on the court to release him, but he will be in grave danger as long as he remains in the country. Muslim extremists view Rahman as an apostate who must be killed according to Islamic law.

(Compass Direct)Compass has confirmed the arrest of two other Afghan Christians. Another Afghan convert to Christianity was beaten severely outside his home by a group of six men who finally knocked him unconscious with a hard blow to his temple. He woke up in the hospital two hours later. "Our brother remains steadfast, despite the ostracism and beatings," one of his friends said.

Pray international media will continue to publicize the persecution of Christians in Afghanistan and other countries. Pray God will protect and strengthen His faithful followers. Pray those who are suffering for their steadfast faith will bring forth a harvest of souls finding true peace in Jesus Christ.CAA learned 24 house-church leaders are still missing following a police raid on a house-church leader's meeting in Henan province. According to an eyewitness report, at noon on March 13th, a number of public security officials raided a house-church meeting at Wen county, Henan province. Eighty Chinese house-church leaders from different counties of Henan province were attending a co-workers' meeting. All of the leaders were then taken into custody after the police searched their bodies and confiscated the cash on them. While 36 from Wen county were released within 24 hours, 24 of those from other counties are still missing. None of their whereabouts are known. Last week CAA also released a Defense Statement prepared by the defense lawyers of a controversial religious group leader, Xu Shuangfu. Xu Shuangfu stated he had sustained an extortion of confession by severe torture, including denial of sleep for long periods and pouring hot pepper, gasoline and ginger juice into his nostrils. He was hung for long periods with his armed stretched and bound, shocked with electricity applied to copper wires bound around his extremities and hit with clubs on a helmet worn on his head. After seven days and nights of severe torture, he finally confessed to the unsubstantiated charges of authorizing the killing of members of the Eastern Lightning sect.
Pray the 24 Christians still in custody will know the comfort of Jesus' presence. Pray they will be released soon. Pray Xu Shuangfu will remember the apostle Peter and know Jesus' love and forgiveness. -
China Aid Association reports that on March 1st at 10:00 a.m. Beijing time, 50 to 60 officers of China's Public Security Bureau stormed and closed a house-church Bible school in Huaibei City, illegally arresting 36 and confiscating 10,000 Bibles, along with 200 new blankets.
First the PSB took the 36 students, teachers and church leaders captive. Three of those who were arrested were pastors - Pastors Liu Haiting, Liang Zhenjun and Joseph Wang.
Did the PSB do this legally? NO! They did not show any identification or search warrants while doing this, and they even videotaped the raid, despite the pastor's objection!
Pastor Chu, one of the arrested has also gone through this before. This is his second arrest in three days, according to the China Aid Association.
The good news is that on the same day, March 1st, the 36 people that they arrested were released. The bad news is that the 10,000 bibles that the CPS took was not given back, because it's being considered by a political committee to determine if it's "illegal literature." "2 Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. 3 At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison, 4 that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak," Paul (Colossians 4:2-4)." >Persecution in China - 36 Illegally Arrested

10Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 "Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. ... 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. ... When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; ... 7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. 8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10 always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. 11 For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. ... Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted."

Christians in America really do not know much, if anything, about being persecuted; at least not through first hand experience. Many (falsely) believe persecution has only been in stories and ancient folklore, but the reality is persecution occurs even today.
During early 1997, young Kim Kyung Il and his brother crossed the border from North Korea into China. The following year he met a pastor, became a Christian and joined a Bible study group. Under the leadership of this pastor, Kyung Il served refugees from North Korea and started Bible studies in the Chengdoo region. He later became involved with sending refugees to South Korea.
(Under Persecution) Lest we begin thinking persecution is only outside of America, we must not willfully cover our eyes from what is going on in America.
Kyung Il was overseer of a safe house that discipled over 70 refugees. When a large number from the group were arrested by the Chinese police, he fled with some of the remaining refugees to the China Mongolian border. He and his wife were captured, but the rest of the group continued their journey in the desert. Without their leader, they wandered for two days and finally crossed the border into Mongolia, where they reached the South Korean embassy and received passage to South Korea.
Kyung Il and his wife were sent back to North Korea and placed in prison. His pregnant wife was hit in the stomach with a stick forcing an abortion. In the prison there were many inmates who knew Kim well, but they protected him by pretending not to know him. Thus the authorities did not realize how involved he was with helping refugees escape from North Korea. He was released after serving only a short sentence. He remembers that those who protected his identity while in prison had asked him to work harder to let the world know about their situation.
Kim’s wife was released from prison shortly after the forced abortion. She escaped to South Korea with other family members. After his release, Kyung Il fled to China and worked at another safe house. He continued to disciple refugees and assisted them in escaping to South Korea. During April 2002, he was caught by the Chinese police. Since his arrest, he has been held in prison in China. He is scheduled to be sent back to North Korea when released from prison in China. All his family now live in South Korea. Pray Kim Kyung Il will not be sent back to North Korea, where he will surely be executed. This past Saturday another fire that investigators believe to be arson was set to another Baptist Church in Alabama. What I find interesting about this whole string of arsons, ten in all, is that there has been virtually no outrage from the Church.
(Persecution of Baptist Churches in America)
Yes, some are reasonably upset and concerned. Some pastors I hear are actually referring to those who did this as people who "hate God", but it's ironic that some cartoons that offend another religion set off massive outrage, fires, burning flags, and even killing people.
This my friends, is evidence that Christians do indeed follow in the footsteps of their Savior and don't return "fire" for "fire". (Pun totally intended - it's Monday :)Islamic killers international sliced off the teacher’s head as his wife and eight children were forced to look on.
(Headteacher Decapitated by Taliban) Why am I blogging about persecution? Because those of us who claim the name of Jesus Christ will be persecuted. It is only a matter of time. I do not say this to make you fearful. I say it to present a reality of which even I do not know. But to identify with Christ is to identify with His suffering. Even Paul says, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." We identify with Christ's suffering that we may identify with His life. It was in Afghanistan where Muslim murderers global still sneak in to do their horrendous deeds in the name of the Koran’s Allah.
This is just another murder in a litany of killings against instructors in Afghan schools where females study. Killers are intent on females not being educated as males.
Malim Abdul Habib was stabbed eight times, then his head was cut off in the courtyard of his home in Qalat, according to AP.
The killers forced his wife and four sons and four daughters to stand in the open to see the atrocity. The children range in age from 2 to 22.

Malim Abdul Habib was stabbed eight times, then his head was cut off in the courtyard of his home in Qalat, according to AP.
The killers forced his wife and four sons and four daughters to stand in the open to see the atrocity. The children range in age from 2 to 22.

(Matthew 5:10-12, John 15:20, 1 Corinthians 4:12, 2 Corinthians 4:7-11, 2 Timothy 3:12)"

I am participating in blogging for the persecuted church with Voice of the Martyrs. Please check out their website(s): www.persecution.com and www.persecutionblog.com.
