God IS Good News
How often do we think of theology as an impractical exercise? I think, at least in part, the issue is that we have been inadvertently taught that. People say, "I want practical things, not theology."
Theology IS practical, though. The problem is it takes some effort to put "feet" on the ethereal theological point we're considering.
Consider Who God is. Yes, God is the Great Three in One, but is God only three Whos in a What? Three Persons in a Being? Well, yes, but He is more than that; He's not less than that, but He's definitely more than that.
God is love. And everything God does is in and out of love. Within the Godhead, we have Father, Son, and Spirit. There is certain equality within the Godhead. Each person of the same essence as the others yet with deference; Each with distinctive roles- a hierarchy, if you will, that still provides harmony and blessed communion and fellowship.
The fellowship of God Himself is eternal and eternally blessed and perfect. And when God acts, He acts as one. Everything that has been and is done is from the Father, through the Son, by the Spirit (I make the case here).
So, now that we have (ever so) briefly discussed the ethereal (head knowledge) theological point, is this practical?
Yes, very much so.
This is how we understand our roles as humans in general and men and women specifically. We are created in God's image, the imago dei. Men are the heads of the home; not in a dictatorship but as ones who lead by word and deed. Women must submit as Christ submits to the Father. And men love their wives as Christ loves the church and gave Himself as a sacrifice for her purchase.
Further, we understand the role of government. And although people think government officials are our modern-day saviors, they are actually deacons of the people. They are not below us, nor are they above us, but their role is rule justly and judge according to the law of which all of use are under.
Think of the family. The child is nothing less than the parent, yet the child's role is to submit in obedience to the parent while the parent trains and rears the child in the love and admonishion of the Lord.
With these few examples, we see theology is extremely practical for it is that which guides our thinking and our actions. And if our actions speak louder than our words, it's always best act according to God's Word and the nature He has shown Himself to have and to be. This is why God is Good News because we derive our very essence and being from Him and through, and to Him for His Glory, Amen.
